Chapter 2: Foster Self-Compassion to Ease Shame

Under Shame is Developmental Trauma

When we take a step back from the pysiological anguish that occurs with shame, we uncover the underpinnings of attachment: the need for safety, and the longing to be seen, to be known, to fit in, to be heard and understood. When unprovided for these longings launch shame attacks, spiraling people into shutting down, acting out, and various self-destructive behaviors. Without a secure base of connection or a network of support to repl on when triggered, people are catapulted into shame spirals that can last days or even weeks, for some stretching into long-term self-destructive patterns.

Chapter 5: Manage Triggered Responses

Text & Image

Triggers tell the story often without narrative understanding. Having a map, an explanation, a reason why traumatic responses affect us in teh way they do helps people deal with being in their body when triggered. Explanations and maps make meaning out of confusing and idsorienting "stuff" making the experiences digestible. Explanations, even as they report and describe an experience, don't always give access to the felt, unnamed experience. There are times when our clients don't know the story or content; other times protective parts and implicit patterns have deliberately kep the information away. Those are the harder times.  This chapter gives concrete practices to deal with triggers making life understandable.

Chapter 6: Develop Intrapsychic Boundaries

Chapter 7: Establish Trust - Prana as Guidance

The Fire of Transformation

To enter the fire of transformation - and healing trauma is more definitely a transformational journey - we need navigational tools. This is the vital key - finding and knowing we are more than just our suffering, so that we can enter that felt experience, meeting ourselves on the other side. To do this we encounter whatever turbulence is there, making contact with the pattern in order to re-pattern from within, pivoting to a more nourishing life.
